Why have a speaker series??

Both Tokunbo & Tahir grew up loving basketball and set a goal, as many do, to make it to “the league”. The perceived glamorous lifestyle of a player in the NBA was enticing growing up. Over time, Tokunbo and Tahir have been exposed to collegiate and professional players in-person. As a result, they have been able to learn and develop an understanding of what the NBA career path truly entails. Unfortunately, they were never taught about other opportunities that exist in the basketball industry. That lack of knowledge significantly limited their options when they began carving out careers as undergraduate students. Had Tokunbo and Tahir received exposure to Sports Agents, Sports Journalists, General Managers of sports teams, Professional Scouts, etc. they would have been better informed to make a sound decision regarding their professional ambitions. For that reason, the Founders discovered that it was imperative to offer a speaker series with some of the brightest minds in the basketball industry invited to attend. These professionals will not only provide insight into their career path, but they will also serve as mentors for students that may have similar career goals and interests. This creates an educational environment for the business of basketball that is conducive towards real-life application. This resource will be available to all students in the academy to provide a robust and more complete understanding of how the basketball industry works.
